It’s important to teach your kids how to benefit both the environment and their health. The obesity epidemic is growing, and teaching kids to make the right choices starts at home.
- Take family walks or bike trips. You could even walk or bike to
get to school as it eliminates fossil fuel emissions (and is great
exercise).
- Sitting down to family dinners is an excellent way to monitor
what your child is eating. You can also have your child help pack
his or her school lunch.
- Go food shopping together so you can all learn how to make
healthy choices. Only bring home foods that you would want your
family to eat.
- Eat at home instead of dining out-this could benefit your
wallet and your health!
- Practice moderation by allowing sweets in moderate
amounts.
- Encourage your child to drink more water. You could even buy
them a reusable water bottle.
- Encourage your child to exercise (play dates, family
outings, gardening, cutting the grass etc.)
Walk the walk! Your kids are excellent imitators of you and your
actions.
