Healthy Planet is pleased to announce that we have a new 'Books for Free' centre opening this Saturday 2 June in Fareham.

The Fareham shop, situated on the junction of West Street and Kings Road, is one of 29 centres across the country providing free books to the public and stopping thousands of books going into landfill.

Shaylesh Patel, founder of Healthy Planet, said:

"When books are sent to landfill there's a financial cost to the community and the environmental cost is even greater.

"We don't have to waste these resources - people can make use of empty buildings and learn from books even when times are tight. This initiative saves everyone money - councils, residents, and commercial landlords who receive a discount on their business rates through hosting us in their shops."

Since the Books for Free initiative started in 2010 Healthy Planet has given away more than 1.6 million books and saved over 150 tonnes from going to landfill.

To find out more about the initiative visit the Books For Free page or view our interactive map to see if there is a Books for Free centre near you.
