The Friends began in 1961, and became a charity in December of 2009. Friends of Richmond Park is a voluntary society whose objective is to conserve the Park, its natural beauty and wildlife, and to advance public education about the Park. Now with about 1,500 members it helps fund conservation projects, organise educational activities, and work to improve observance of Park regulations concerning wildlife.
Many of Richmond Park's 130,000 trees are under threat from
disease and climate change, including those that provide food for
the local red and fallow deer population. Currently funding
is being raised through "Adopt a Plot" to plant additional
climate-resistant and native trees to the area. In addition
to actively adding desperately needed shrubs and trees, Friends of
Richmond Park is publishing booklets to educate the public on the
importance of sustaining this beautiful ecosystem.
