Healthy Planet’s Books for Free makes it 10:10:10:10
As part of the 10:10:10 global day of positive action on climate change, Healthy Planet celebrated saving 10 tonnes of books since June from landfill on Sunday 10 October, 2010.
Healthy Planet's founder Shaylesh Patel said:
"In London alone we produce 20 million tonnes of waste each year
and these books would have been part of the waste destined for
landfill. At Healthy Planet we encourage people to reuse as much as
they can. Unwanted books can be donated at our Books for Free
stalls for others to enjoy."
To encourage people to keep the books out of the bin, each book is
stamped with the simple message: "Pass me on when you've finished
reading me."
The charity's Kensington outlet at 208 -212 Kensington High Street
was open for business on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 October. With the
help of everyone who came and browsed, we managed to save an
additional 1 tonne of books within the weekend!
