5 Steps to Healthy Learning

Sign-up here

1. PICK YOUR PARK
Choose a park from any of the world's 77,000 protected parks. It could be in an area that the class is currently studying - e.g. the Brazilian rainforest, or even a park in the school's local community. You can use Google Earth through our website to help identify your park.

2. LEARNING
Your class may spend a number of Geography, ICT or Citizenship classes studying the culture and wildlife of your chosen park. This offers a good opportunity to make students aware of global issues, such as deforestation, that are damaging the area. Our programme includes free technical support, a free assembly visit and free lesson plan material:

Key Stage 2: Environments and Conservation

3. FUNDRAISING
In order to raise enough money to adopt a plot of land from the park they have studied, the class is encouraged to plan and prepare a fundraising event. From raffles to fairs, fundraising can be done in many different ways.

You can find a list of suggestions and a sponsorship form template in our Teacher's Introduction Pack.

4. ADOPT A PLOT
With the fundraising money you donate to your chosen park, we encourage you to adopt a plot of land within it. For example, 1 sq kilometer (140 football pitches; up to 58,000 trees) costs £180 to adopt per year. Once a plot has been adopted via healthyplanet.org, the class/school's name and message will appear on a plaque in Google Earth on our website.

The class are also welcomed to join our forum and read updates from those working in the park and even vote for or against specific projects.

5. YOUR GRANT
With the total money you fundraise (minus the 10% that goes to Healthy Planet workings operations), a minimum of 50% must go to the park of your choice. What you do with the remaining 50% is up to you - you can donate more to your park or it can be used as a grant for your school.

To receive your grant - simply email learning@healthyplanet.org with the name of the school, username and total donated, along with a short description of how your school will improve the sustainability and health of our planet and children, and you will qualify for our grant. That's it.
